Redfern-Waterloo Portfolio
The Redfern - Waterloo area is of substantial historical and cultural significance to the past and future development of Sydney.
Aboriginal people have a special connection with the Redfern–Waterloo area. Many Aboriginal people from all over NSW reside in and around Redfern.
Historically Redfern-Waterloo has had a strong place in the hearts of Sydney’s workers.
In recent years there have been major challenges in relation to the proposed future of the area known as “The Block”.
The Aboriginal Housing Company has developed various proposals for the future use of the site.
Specifically, in concert with the State Government architect and other relevant groups, the Aboriginal Housing Company developed the Pemulwuy project. (The Pemulwuy project website)
The State Labor Government under Minister Sartor’s direction has been dismissive of the Pemulwuy project of the Aboriginal Housing Company.
As the former Shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs (1996-2007) I am aware of the concerns of the local Aboriginal community regarding the Government’s dismissive attitude to the Pemulwuy project.
A selection of my Redfern – Waterloo media releases can be viewed under the Redfern–Waterloo Media Releases heading, in the media releases section of this website.
On behalf of the NSW Liberal National Coalition I will be working to ensure the State Labor Government works with the local community to develop strong, detailed and supported plans for the future of Redfern – Waterloo.
