Infrastructure and Planning portfolio

Planning policy is critical to the future of NSW.

How the Government plans for new development and new industry substantially impacts on individuals’ enjoyment of their community and the economic health of the state.

The State Labor Government has failed to adequately plan for the future needs of NSW.

In the urban areas of Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong, residents have expressed concern at the lack of consultation with local residents on projects that impact on their lives.

Regional areas often lack the necessary health, education, transport and other infrastructure needs critical to effective development.

State Labor has shown an inclination to introduce special legislation for particular projects, which often diminish the capacity of local communities to have a say in future development.

The Labor Planning Minister has been given special powers to declare particular projects to be “state significant” and hence to circumvent normal checks and balances.

The State Liberal and National Coalition will be working with communities to develop the right balance to take NSW forward but also ensure local communities their say.

A selection of my Planning media releases can be viewed under the Planning heading, in the media releases section of this website.

As the Shadow Minister for Planning I welcome any ideas on the future planning needs of NSW.  Please send your ideas to me at: brad.hazzard@parliament.nsw.gov.au
