If you live in a unit, I ask that you give thought to safeguarding children who may fall from upstairs windows or off balconies.
Recently as Minister for Planning, I launched a campaign to get parents/carers to think about keeping furniture and other items children can climb on, away from windows and balcony ledges.
The NSW Government has now had brochures distributed widely but I am keen to ensure local residents are aware of the issue.
If you have family or friends living in units, please ensure they are aware of the need to:
Lock windows into a safe position with minimal open space to prevent children falling through
Remove items near windows/on balconies upon which children can climb
Remember wire screens aren’t enough to safeguard children!
