It is timely that I acknowledge our Northern Beaches District Rural Fire Service personnel, who have been providing much needed assistance to communities across the State throughout the devastating bushfires.
Our local crews have been deployed to Armidale, Glen Innes, Clarence Valley, Mid Coast, Kempsey, Central Coast and Hawkesbury. They were also on standby in November, when a State of Emergency was declared by the NSW Government due to forecast catastrophic fire conditions.
The RFS do a wonderful job to keep us safe. I was pleased to attend the Northern Beaches District Award Presentation earlier this year to recognise our volunteers, some of whom have provided over 50 years of service.
As a Government, the Liberals/Nationals are doing all we can to provide support. We have committed $48 million to support the recovery of communities and industries severely affected. This is the largest bushfire disaster recovery relief package ever recorded in NSW and includes:
- $25m to facilitate the clean-up of damaged/destroyed homes.
- Waived waste levy fees for residents.
- $30m for grants of up to $15,000 for primary producers and small businesses.
- $4m for mental health services for individuals, community groups and emergency services personnel.
